Akron lands Georgia receiver

Receiver Carnell Boyd of Lithonia (Ga.) Martin Luther King knew it was cold up north, but he still was caught by surprise during his official visit to Akron last weekend.
"I've never seen that much snow in my life," he said. "There was a lot. A whole lot."

Boyd wasn't crazy about the snow, but he liked everything else about the visit. And now, the 6-foot, 189-pounder has committed to the Zips.
"It was great up there," Boyd said. "I liked how the players were so welcoming. They were truthful on the situation, and how they wanted a good recruiting class to come in. I really like the coaches. They were straight-forward with me. Me and [assistant] coach Jeff Bowden really clicked."
According to Boyd, he also has offers from programs such as Arkansas State, Buffalo and Georgia Southern.
"I was supposed to go to Colorado State and New Mexico, but I don't know if I'm going to take those visits now," Boyd said. "I will take an official to Georgia Southern. I like Georgia Southern a lot.
At Akron, Boyd thinks he could play early.
"Coach Bowden told me they needed receivers like me to come in and play right away," Boyd said. "They need receivers with speed. That kind of sold me."
