Cam Akers’ college decision was as well protected a secret as there is in recruiting. On Tuesday, he decided to share his intention to attend Florida State with the world. His choice was released via streaming video at Hsfnetwork.com and it, like all things pertaining to the process, was done quietly and on Akers’ terms.

The conclusion to one of the most contested recruitments of the cycle was sealed with a short sentence and a smile.

“I’ll be spending the next four years at Florida State," Akers said in a short segment on the online network.

Akers said the decision wasn’t an easy one. In fact, the timetable he lays out says things were contested until the 11th hour.

“I didn’t know until probably two days ago where I was going,” Akers said. "It was the best option for me and my family."

Current FSU tailback Dalvin Cook’s upcoming departure for the NFL played a factor for Akers, who says he sees the starting running back job at FSU as “up for grabs.” Still, available playing time wasn’t the only driving factor behind his choice

“It was just the best situation for me and my family all around,” Akers said. “It’s a great situation for me and I just fit the program well.”

The No 2 running back and the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2017 class, Akers played his high school career at Clinton (Miss.) High School. He chose FSU over offers from nearly every major program in America, including fellow finalists Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU.
