Afutiti makes his college choice

One name we haven't heard mentioned much in the last few months has been Fontana (Calif.) Kaiser defensive end Bernard Afutiti. Afutiti, 6-0, 220 pounds earned all-state honors for the third straight season this past year and took his first official visit this past weekend.
Afutiti was hearing from schools all over the West region but grade concerns scared away several colleges. He held offers from San Jose State, Utah and Fresno State and took a visit to San Jose State this past weekend.

"It was great, in fact, I went ahead and committed," Afutiti said. "I just liked everything about the place. The new staff, the players, I fit in real well there. They have some nice new facilities and the school itself is really nice.
"Coach Tomey is a great coach and I'm excited to play for him. He wants a fast, aggressive defense and that's my style of play. He said he needs guys who can get up the field, get off blocks and make plays behind the line of scrimmage. They want me to come in as a defensive end. I'll need to put on a little weight but that shouldn't be a problem for me."
Afutiti said he's still awaiting his most recent SAT score results but is confident he did well enough to pass it. He said he's fine with his core classes but just needs to get a qualifying test score.
