Mykael Wright is one of the top 2019 cornerbacks in the West region. Nebraska cornerbacks coach Donte Williams recruits the area as well as any assistant in the country.

So it seemed like a good match recently when the Huskers became the latest offer for the Valencia, Calif., standout who could definitely be a national recruit.

“Last week I was talking to coach Williams and he told me to send him my mid-season highlights once I make them and as soon as I sent it to him he told me to call him when I was free but it was kind of hard because of the time difference,” Wright said.

“So he texted me (the next) morning and asked if I was free and as soon as I got the text I called him. Then he told me that he has been scouting me since last year and wanted to offer me a scholarship.”

So far, Wright has landed offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Nebraska, UCLA and Utah. In the spring, the 2019 four-star cornerback said the Bruins held the early edge in his recruitment but many other schools were not so involved at that time.

The Valencia standout had really positive things to say about Nebraska and what could be a big deal in his recruitment is how he continues to develop a relationship with Williams.

The Huskers have had success recruiting the West and Wright is clearly one of the top targets for their 2019 class.

Wright has plenty of interest.

“Nebraska is a great school with a great football program and great fans,” Wright said. “I feel like me and Donte will build and have a strong connection later.”
