Add another big one for Wells

The list continues to grow for Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood star junior running back Maurice Wells. Just a day after picking up a major scholarship offer from Florida State, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound back landed another big-time offer.
“He was just offered by Notre Dame,” Sandalwood coach Adam Geis. “That made two big time offers in about 24 hours. He got the one from Florida State late on Friday night and then the coaches from Notre Dame called and told me that they’re sending down the offer.”

For the record, the list has gotten almost too large to remember, but big-time programs like Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Notre Dame and USC have now all officially offered the Class 6A state player of the year in 2003.
Wells was a first-team Class 6A all-state selection as a junior after leading the state in rushing. He also was named the state player of the year and owns the single-game record for yards in a game (429).
