Academics First For CB

Fayetteville (Ga.) Starr’s Mill cornerback Deante Battle has a top five, but it could change between now and the time he decides.
"Stanford, Colorado, Texas, Florida, and Virginia Tech are my top five. That's not a set thing and it could change, but as of now those are the five schools I'm looking at the hardest."

Stanford, Colorado, and Virginia Tech have extended offers to Battle. Battles list of scholarship offers extend farther than the three mentioned aforementioned programs. He also has offers from Notre Dame, Virginia, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Penn State, and Indiana.
Battle attended the All-American Nike Camp in Athens, Georgia where the 5-foot-10, 187-pound corner posted an impressive 4.45-second 40-yard dash. He also went to a team camp at Georgia State, but has no plans of attending any other camps.
"Most schools are recruiting me as a defensive back, but Vandy offered me a scholarship as a running back. I'm going to wait until the season is over to decide. It will be right after the season ends though, because I plan on graduating early and enrolling in January."
As impressive as Battle is on the field, he is just as impressive in the classroom. That is obvious when prestigious academic schools such as Vanderbilt, Duke, Stanford, and Notre Dame extend offers. Battle carries a 3.6 GPA and scored an 1180 on the SAT.
"I grew up rooting for Georgia and I've always been a Dawg, but they don't have my major. Choosing a college for a lot of prospects is based only on football, but for me school is first and all else is secondary."
