Abrams Apopka prepare to defend title

The Apopka Blue Darters received an early test last week in a kickoff classic that won't count against their official record. Rockledge High School, the 2001 Class 3A champs, made the trip from Brevard County to Northwest Orange. Abrams had 13 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown against a talented Rockledge defense. However Apopka came up short at the end, 20-23, after a late Rockledge touchdown. The Blue Darters host Winter Park High School and quarterback Steven MoffettClick Apopka (Fla.) running back Alan Abrams is one of the top prospects from the Central Florida area this year and the 5-foot-11, 192 pound speedster was one of the key reasons his team won the Class 6A state championship last season. As far as recruiting goes, Abrams has been inundated with phone calls from college coaches this week.
"I've gotten a couple calls," Abrams said. "I've heard from Miami, Florida, South Carolina, Memphis, South Florida, Purdue, and there's a couple more but I can't remember."
Abrams has received written scholarship offers from South Carolina, LSU, Purdue, and Indiana.
Any favorites?
"Not right now," Abrams said. "I'm still wide open."
Like many other recruits from the state, Abrams plans to be in Gainesville this weekend.
"I'm going to go to Florida-Miami this week," Abrams said.
Editor's Note: Although Abrams declined to list any favorites, his father, Alan Abrams, Sr., told Rivals.com in an e-mail that Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, and Purdue are his four favorite schools at this point and he would most likely take visits there. Mr. Abrams also said his son has scheduled an official visit to Miami on January 17, 2003.
