Abbott visits Middle Tennessee

This past weekend, Orlando (Fla.) Freedom quarterback Derik Abbott hit the road to check out an out-of-state program.
"I went to Middle Tennessee this weekend," Abbott said. "I enjoyed it very much."

The 5-foot-11, 179-pound signal-caller talked about what he heard and saw at Middle Tennessee.
"Coach (Rick Stockstill) talked about how pivotal their academics are," Abott said. "I did get a chance to talk to their offensive coordinator and see what they are doing offensively and how they run their offense. It is very similar to what we do at Freedom, it is very up-tempo and high pace. It is about getting the ball out of the quarterbacks hand fast."
During the visit, the Central Florida product was able to see the Blue Raiders in action on the field.
"I watched their their Blue and White Game, their spring game," Abbott said. "I fit perfectly in with their offense. Just from watching them and some of the route combinations that they ran, they are identical to what we do at Freedom. It was about the quarterback getting rid of the ball fast or if he had to move, getting up the field fast and getting a few yards. That is what I do at Freedom. So it fits me perfectly."
Abbott, who is still waiting for his first offer, wasn't given any indication that one was coming from Middle Tennessee in the immediate future.
"They haven't really said yet," Abbott said. "My recruiting coordinator, I talked with him about the offense and he said they are going to keep an eye on me throughout the spring and keep track of me. He told me to just keep them updated."
This weekend Abbott will participate in the Tallahassee Nike Football Training Camp. He plans to visit Pittsburgh in the coming months, as well as possibly Ole Miss, Kent State, and Youngstown State.
