Abbott picks Florida State

Massive offensive lineman Courtney Abbott was expected to choose between Kentucky and Virginia today. He surprised a lot of people by skipping over both schools and picking Florida State instead.
"In the end the biggest factor was my mom," said Abbott. "I listen to her more than anyone else and I trust what she thinks. Florida State is close to home, it's a great program and she'll get to see me play a lot. I'm just happy to be able to play football at such a great school."

The 6-foot-9, 335-pound lineman from Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake runs the 40-yard dash in 5.35 seconds and bench presses 400 pounds. His massive frame and strength have established him as one of the South's top run blockers.
"Kentucky and Virginia were right up there," he said. "I was considering those schools right up until the last minute. In fact, for a while I was almost sure it would be one of those two schools. But I took some time to step back and really think about things, and I felt Florida State was the best place for me. I know it's kind of surprised a lot of people, but it's the best decision for me and the people close to me."
In addition to Florida State, Kentucky and Virginia, Abbott had offers from LSU, Georgia, Auburn and others. He still plans on taking official visits and mentioned LSU as a school he would like to take a trip to.
"I still plan on taking some more visits. This commitment was something I've wanted to make for a while, and I'm glad I've made it. But if something else comes along that really blows me away I'll be open to it."
