Southwest recruiting analyst Jason Howell has the top performers from the Aaron Williams Lone Star Showcase.

AARON WILLIAMS LONE STAR SHOWCASE TOP PERFORMERS

1. RB Samaje Perine, Pflugerville Hendrickson

When it comes to the eyeball test, Perine is among the best. Physically he is built as a coach would want. He is muscled from head to toe. But it's more than that. During footwork drills he was among the best, and during one-on-ones he ran crisp routes gained separation and showed big hands. As usual it was a strong performance from the Hendrickson standout.

2. DT Trey Lealaimatafao, San Antonio Warren

Lealaimatafao showed up with a smile on his face, and ready to handle business. He might be short, but he is built like a stump and showed the quickness that made him one of the most sought-after defensive tackles in Texas before he committed to the Longhorns. He does a great job of working his hands and worked inside at tackle as well as outside at defensive end.

3. WR Nick Alexander, Lancaster

Alexander is easy to spot in a crowd. At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, he has a big frame and long arms. He does not mind getting physical and defensive backs have trouble when trying to get into him off the line. He does a good of using those long arms to catch the ball in traffic and has the speed to stretch the field.

4. ATH Reggie Turner, Pasadena Memorial As a slot receiver, Turner was on top of his game. He was quick Sunday as he kept defensive backs guessing. At 5-9 and 165 pounds he is on the small side, but it is easy to see why he is drawing attention from college coaches as a receiver and a defensive back.

5. WR Latrell Martin, Pflugerville Hendrickson

Like Alexander, Martin is a big receiver who can stretch the field as well as get physical with opposing defensive backs. His long arms and athleticism give him an advantage when in traffic or in jump-ball situations. He is also quite the competitor. He was one of the first in line for one-on-ones and he took as many reps as he could get on the day.

He did a good job of keeping the ball high and getting it out of his hand as quick as possible. He put the ball into some tight windows and showed some nice touch at times as well as the ability to put some velocity on it. He was the most consistent of the guys I saw Sunday.

7. WR Justin Gamble, Pflugerville Hendrickson (2015)

It comes as no surprise after checking him out Sunday that college coaches have quickly fallen for the 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver from Stony Point. He was another one who seemed to be ready for a route whenever he could jump in. He ran some great routes and showed off some strong hands.

8. CB Joseph Mobley, Friendswood Clear Brook

Mobley was a guy who quickly caught the attention. He shied away from no one. He went up against the best receivers he could and even when he was beat, he was there to make a play. He was quick in his footwork, he flipped his hips with ease and he played with great balance. There were times when you wanted him to be a bit more aggressive but he was right there with receivers all day.

9. ILB Micah Thomas, Cedar Park Vista Ridge

These events are never easy for linebackers, especially those trying to show they are not defensive linemen, but Thomas was surprisingly comfortable in space and did a great job following double moves by running backs. He had at least one interception and he showed the ability to stay with some speed backs.

10. PQB Ben Hicks, Waco Midway (2015) Hicks quickly caught the attention of coaches working the event. He is tall and seems to be pretty well-schooled mechanically. He also showed the ability to lace the ball to receivers, putting some nice velocity behind his throws.

11. ILB Cameron Sonnier, Friendswood Clear Brook Like Thomas, Sonnier handled business at linebacker and did a good job of getting into the hip of his opponent and going up and making a play on the ball. He was patient and did not commit too early, showing some nice instincts.
