5-star Stanford QB commit Davis Mills talks health, recruiting efforts

The Latest: For Stanford quarterback commit Davis Mills, his final year of high school football was a bit of a roller coaster ride. After suffering an injury in fall camp that looked like it would cost him the year, Mills recovered after just three weeks and returned to play most of the season. After shaking off the rust Mills looked the part of the nation’s No. 1 pro-style quarterback, throwing 34 touchdowns to just one interception. But just when it looked like Mills would cap off his comeback story with a state championship, he suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of the title game. Rivals.com caught up with Mills to get the latest on his injury, his plans for an official visit and his plans to enroll.

In His Words: “I’ve been feeling good. I just need a little rest before offseason workouts start. Everything should be fine.”

On Stanford’s season: “They struggled at times but had some injuries on offense at the start of the year that I think slowed things down. Looking at how everything played out I think they looked pretty solid the rest of the year.”

On the quarterback situation: “You have to go with who is playing well so they’re going to put the best guy out there and that’s what they’ve decided and I think it’s worked out.”

On the chance to play early: “It’s possible. I kind of had the mindset going to Stanford that they usually redshirt quarterbacks but if they need me I will always be willing to step up and compete for the job.”

On helping recruit: “I’m helping with a couple of guys. I was recruiting Walker Little hard and now we are both recruiting Foster Sarell. It’s looking good right now, no promises but it’s looking good.”

Rivals Reaction: Mills injury will keep him out of the this weekend’s Army All-American Game, but the good news for Stanford fans is that it likely won’t require a major surgery. Mills will arrive in San Antonio on Thursday and will have three days to help Little recruit Sarrell. As far as his official visit, Mills will be on campus with several other recruits on Jan. 12-15 and plans to enroll in June.
