5-star DB recaps southern swing

Five-star Minkah Fitzpatrick has stayed relatively quiet since the season ended. The Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep defensive back just finished up a series of four visits to southern schools.
"We started at Georgia and went to their junior day," said the 6-foot, 183-pound Fitzpatrick. "Then we went to Florida State, Florida and Miami.

"I got to talk to the coaches at Georgia," he said. "I really liked coach Pruitt and the way he ran his defense at Florida State. Now that he's a Georgia I got to sit down with him and he seemed like a great guy. I got to see the campus and it was really nice.
"I got a tour of the campus at Florida State," Fitzpatrick said. "It was a really nice campus. I really enjoyed it there and the weather was nice. I got to talk to coach Fisher and he's another great guy and great coach. I think they really enjoyed having me and I had a lot of fun while I was there. I talked with the defensive backs coach for a little bit. We talked about the scheme and where he sees me playing. He coached me up a little bit. I got to go over some film with him and that was pretty cool.
"The Gators have a beautiful campus and the weather is really nice in Gainesville," he said. "I coach to talk to coach T-Rob. He's another great defensive back coach. He knows a lot about the game. I got to watch them work out and it was a great experience.
"Miami was a lot of fun," said Fitzpatrick. "I got to walk around with coach D'Onofrio and coach Golden. I got to know them a lot better and we had fun together. Brandon (Fitzpatrick's teammate Brandon Wimbush) and I had a lot of fun there."
While Fitzpatrick maintains that he has no favorites, he has said in the past that Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, LSU, Alabama, South Carolina and Rutgers have stood out to him.
"A couple of schools left a good impression but I'm going to be naming names right now," he said. "These visits definitely helped me a lot."
A few schools will get to host Fitzpatrick during for their spring game or a spring practice.
"I'm going to get to Alabama's A-Day and I'm going to probably get to a couple of spring practices," Fitzpatrick said. "I might be going to a Florida State practice and a few other places but I'm not sure yet."
Fitzpatrick participated in last year's Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour.
