Eric Lauderdale returned from his weekend visit to Arizona State and promptly set an announcement date. He cautions not to read too much into that, but the timing is interesting to say the least.
Still, according to Lauderdale, he remains torn between ASU and Florida. He'll only have a week to think things over. The four-star junior college wide receiver will commit on Saturday.
For a guy still mulling two options, he seems pretty sure of the timetable.
"I'm making my decision this Saturday," Lauderdale said. "I'm going to do it Saturday for sure. I want to get it over with."
Lauderdale, Who is scheduled to graduate from Saddleback (Calif.) Community College in May, is attempting to downplay any lean that may exist at this juncture. He calls his recent visit to Tempe "the same as any other trip" and is careful nto to tip his hand when outlining what he likes about each of his finalists.
If Lauderdale has a destination in mind, he's doing what he can to hide it.
"With Florida, that's always a good program," Lauderdale said. "I know they had a own season this last time but they are always good. They have that new offensive coordinator and they run the spread. I can catch passes right away there and help out. With Arizona State, they did well this past season. They're on the rise. I like all the coaches and the offensive coordinator."
The No. 18-ranked junior college prospect in the country, Lauderdale received 16 scholarship offers. He recently cancelled a scheduled visit to Oregon, which looked to be among his finalists for a short time.
