A day removed from his commitment and a day ahead of National Signing Day, four-star wide receiver Miles Battle was happy the recruiting process is over and ready to move on to a career at Ole Miss.

Battle committed on Monday in a video announcement released on Twitter. His commitment gave the Rebels their 19th commitment in 2018 ranked just outside the Top 20 in the Rivals class recruiting rankings.

“It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders, I would say,” he said. “It’s been a long time - since the start of my sophomore year - so just getting to the end of it is a great feeling.”

Battle de-committed from Oregon following Willie Taggart’s move to Florida State after the season, but said that he was torn between the Ducks and the Rebels right up to the end.

“I was going back-and-forth for about two weeks,” he said. “Even after I took both visits I was still going back-and-forth, and me and my family just kind of sat back and weighed everything out, and it was just the best decision for me to go to Ole Miss.

“They just liked the family atmosphere and how much they care. It’s not that they need me, they want me.”

That they did. Battle said that he and his family were most taken by the show of support and desire from the entire staff in its final push to reel him in. Even in a class filled with talent on the offensive side of the ball, there was little doubt that Battle is a player that the coaches had big plans for.

“They just showed me that I was a priority,” he said. “They brought a lot of their coaches down; I had an in-home visit with about six coaches. That was a new experience that had never happened before. Of all the coaches that came for in-home visits, they brought the most and that was something that definitely stood out.”

Battle’s decision came down to more than just being convinced that he was a more valuable asset to the Rebels. His optimism for the offense and the team as a whole was something that he considered and saw the greatest potential for with him in the mix.

He took his official visit on the same weekend as early signee Elijah Moore, but was able to spend time with Demarcus Gregory and Matt Corral, who was already on campus.

“I think that we’re going to do some big things with Coach (Phil) Longo’s offense and us as receivers, getting coached by Coach (Jacob) Peeler,” he said. “Those two guys together have created something special, and we’re glad to be a part of that.

“The direction of the program is going nowhere but up. The offense is crazy, we’re going to be learning from guys like D.K. Metcalf and A.J. Brown, and just take off.”
