DALLAS, Tx. -- 2019 Bishop Dunne athlete Marquez Beason has had no trouble this spring picking up offers. In fact, that was a big part of the reason he recently chose to step back from his commitment to Nebraska earlier this month.

Beason said that things with the Huskers are still on very good terms but said that getting caught up in the atmosphere of Nebraska’s spring game moved him to make a commitment sooner than he otherwise would have.

“It was like, when I went and I felt so at home, then I wanted to commit,” he said. “But as I sat at home and I thought about it, it was way too early for me to commit. I still have two years of high school left, so I have a lot of time left to make a decision.”

He still has plans to make a return to Lincoln on June 23, when Nebraska has a Friday Night Lights camp scheduled. Beason said the staff was understanding of his decision to reopen his commitment and that his visit during the spring game isn’t one that he’ll soon forget.

“It felt like I was in paradise - like my dream world,” he said. “It’s everything I wanted; fans, coaches, players, I just felt at home.”

Shortly after his decommitment from Nebraska, Beason picked up four more offers but he’s also been thinking recently about Illinois and Texas as recent suitors that have caught his attention.

IN HIS WORDS

On Illinois

“I love the passion that they have for their recruits,” he said. “No matter how many offers you have, how many stars, they’re going to show you that they want you 100 percent.”

On if finishes in recent seasons influence his attitude towards the program

“I don’t really think about that,” he said. “I feel like with my skill-set, I can change a program around. Also, I feel like if I go somewhere, I could help bring-in good recruits.”

On Texas

“It’s a blessing knowing I can go there because as a kid I grew up watching Texas,” he said. “I watched them win a national championship, so it’s an honor that I could go to Texas.”

On his relationship with director of player personnel Bryan Carrington and receivers coach Drew Mehringer

“I love their energy and their passion about football,” he said.

RIVALS REACTION

Another team that shouldn’t be counted out when it gets involved with a Bishop Dunne prospect is Notre Dame, who offered Beason in early March. Former Dunne cornerback and rising Irish senior Nick Watkins was at Beason’s spring game last Friday and may have had a word or two with him about his consideration of Notre Dame.

“It’s a great school, great education, great football and overall a great program,” he said. “I’ve talked with Nick just a little bit. He just told me that it’s a great school and I really need to take it into consideration.”
