Even in the midst of so many Texas prospects making commitments over the last few weeks, there are still a few high-profile players choosing between several top programs – one of the most notable being Mansfield Legacy cornerback Jeffery Carter.

The four-star cornerback released a Top 4 on Wednesday, consisting of Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M. Although he has gotten things pretty well narrowed down, he said that he’s still planning on taking his time with his final decision and looking to commit at the Under Armour All-American Game.

“All four schools of these schools will help me be a better corner when I go to the NFL Draft,” he said. “All the coaches at all these schools I have a real good relationship with. I understand each one of the coaches and my parents love each one of the coaches and we can talk more than just football.”

Carter has taken only one official visit, to A&M, where he was in attendance for the Aggies spring game. His next official visit is slated for June 22 to Alabama and he’ll decide afterwards what’s left for him to see before his mind is made up. In the meantime, an argument could be made for each of his finalists to end the process with his final commitment.

IN HIS WORDS

On Alabama

“With Bama, it’s just about being coached by Nick Saban and being part of such a winning culture and that’s really already about preparing me for the draft.

On upcoming official visit

“I just hope that I can better build relationships with some of the incoming freshmen and players at my position,” he said. “I just want to be able to talk to Coach Saban and everyone on the defensive side of the ball. I just really want to talk football, get down to business and see if that’s the school I’ll go to.”

“They’ve just been able to prove that they can get DB’s into the league,” he said. “Every DB that has come through has had the chance to step on the field and prove themselves every time. They’re getting coached by the head coach every day and working against some of the best DB’s … [NFL teams] know that you’re at a competitive school playing a competitive position and being coached by one of the best so you know what you’re doing.”

On Oklahoma, where he was previously committed

“They’re just trying to remind me that I made the right choice before and that OU is really my home,” he said. “They want me to know that they have all the right tools to get to the league and it’s the right time to start thinking about that … I’ve been hearing from Coach (Lincoln) Riley and I have been hearing from Coach (Kerry) Cooks a lot. Really it’s them or Bookie [Brendan Radley-Hiles] will DM on Twitter and we’ll talk a little bit about OU.”

“With Oklahoma, I would be going against some of the best receivers in my class every day and that would be like iron sharpens iron,” he said. “Everyone has been texting me telling me that OU is the move,” he said. “NewWave19; I see it everywhere, I think every single players in the class has texted me about coming there.”

On Texas

“Me and my cousin [Taurean Carter] could possibly go to Texas together,” he said. “We really want to play at the same college.”

“Texas is one of those schools that you know will be the right fit for you when you go there,” he said. “Especially right now with all the DB’s that they signed in the class above me. You can prove yourself if you go there. If you want to go compete there and earn a spot, you’ll be coached by one of the best in Coach (Jason) Washington.”

More on Washington

“He just really emphasizes talking more than just football,” he said. “He’s more about getting to know you, your family, and really wants to give you that vibe – connect with you in the football world and the real world. He wants to be a part of your life and that’s what gives me a good relationship with him.”

On Texas A&M

“Me and coach Mo [Maurice Linguist] have one of the best relationships when it comes to a coach and a player,” he said. “We really understand each other and we both want to win. He always emphasizes that I am one his key players in the 2019 class because he said me joining that class with all the other top guys that are in it … those are players that are real big keys to having a championship team and just the whole energy of everyone wanting to turn Texas A&M around to win a championship is good.”

Importance of official visit during A&M’s spring game

“It was a 10,” he said. “I got everything that I wanted to be answered when I went down there. Of course, if you go to A&M and get a degree, you’re going to come out with a job because Aggies hire Aggies. I spent time this summer talking to the other guys there at my position and I really enjoyed being around them – we all just knew that if we commit to the program, we’ll off be hungry and have a job to go accomplish and not just settle for a 5-7 season; we’d want to beat the Alabama’s and all those teams.”
