ATLANTA, Ga. – Earlier this week, four-star athlete Makiya Tongue tweeted that his release of a Top 3 is imminent.

Tongue took an official visit to Georgia just ahead of his appearance in the Pylon 7-on-7 National Championships with the Louisiana Bootleggers and all indications are that the experience moved the Bulldogs into a very favorable position with him. Of course, he’s not releasing a Top 1, and there are a few other teams for Georgia to contend with.

Tongue also took official visits to Texas and Arizona State in recent weeks and the fact that all three have assured him that they’ll give him an opportunity to play receiver first seems to point to that group making up his list of finalists. Considering all three have already received their official from him as well, a commitment shouldn’t be too far behind.

IN HIS WORDS

On Arizona State

“That official went great,” he said. “Arizona State is another place that has a really strong family environment. Everyone is cool with each other, understands each other … Coach Herm (Edwards) is so cool – that’s a cool dude. He’s not one of the types to scream at you, he talks to you. He’s a cool dude.”

“Coach John Simon, the running backs coach, stays in contact with me a lot,” he said. “He’s another cool guy that I like. I had a good chance to spend some time talking to him out there too.”

On Texas

“It went good,” he said. “Texas is a good place; they’ve got a good staff, it’s in the city of Austin, everyone’s cool over there – it’s just a good family environment and I like that a lot about them.”

“I like where they want me as a receiver, but they said that if I didn’t end up liking that, I could play defense too,” he said. “My plan is to play receiver wherever I go, so I like that about them … Texas communicates with me a lot. I talk with Coach (Jason) Washington and Coach Drew (Mehringer) just about every day or every other day, so I’ve been hearing from them a lot.”
