4-star ATH commits to UGA

The Georgia Bulldogs got their first big commitment following their annual Dawg Night camp when four-star Atlanta (Ga.) Mays athlete Randrecous Davis made the call on Monday.
"I have officially committed to Georgia and I'm proud to be a Bulldog," the 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect said. "I was going to do at Dawg Night but he said he didn't have my grades on file yet so my coach had to email it over today and I had to send them my ACT score. They just needed that for me to commit and I went on and did it."

Davis already had an offer going into the camp, but his excellent showing was enough to prove to the school that he should be a priority.
"They just really wanted me to come out there and work out and do what I do regularly," Davis said of the camp. "What I do all the time and that's it. I did good, making people fall, getting open, making plays, I did all that and then I held it down."
Davis is still waiting to have his conversation with head coach Mark Richt, but his recruiter was assistant coach Bryan McClendon, a fellow Mays graduate and Davis' main advocate to the other Georgia coaches. Davis said the two have a great bond and it played a major role in his decision.
"He's real important because he graduated from my high school and from Georgia and he's the wide receivers coach so he plays a big part in it," Davis said. "Then he's going to be my position coach so I know he's going to look out for me and have my best interests in mind."
Like several of the players already in Georgia's 2016 class, Davis said he has a great relationship with other commits dating back to their days in youth football.
"A lot of it had to do with Julian Rochester, we played middle school together on the same team so we're like brothers and he had a big part in it," Davis said. "My former teammate Natrez Patrick is up there, so are other guys I've known forever like D'Andre Walker, Jayson Stanley, Aaron Dowdell, they all had a part in it. We're all close and we all want to play together again."
During the spring Davis had collected several offers, including Florida and Alabama, but he said Georgia's clear intent to use him on offense was one of the main factors in his decision.
"That was the whole thing about going to Florida," Davis said. "I didn't know if I was ready to just play defensive back. I wanted to do something that I was already familiar with and had been playing a long time. I can work on it if I need to but I want to start at receiver and Georgia gave me that opportunity."
The Dawgs appeared to check every major box for Davis - who already has a Georgia tattoo on his left bicep - including appeasing his mother.
"That was a big part too because my mom wanted me to stay close to home," Davis said. "She comes to all my games and she wants to keep doing that. So I chose something close for her."
Davis, who was an initial member of the Class of 2016 Rivals250, is currently ranked as a four-star and the No. 20 athlete in the country. He is Georgia's 13th commitment and the seventh player ranked as a four-star or higher.
