PEARLAND, Tex. -- Texas has no shortage of wide receiver talent, but one of the most fun slot receiver prospects to watch this spring has been Shadow Creek recruit Kealon Jackson.

After a mini-flurry of some impressive offers early in the offseason, he’s now starting to get an idea about the teams that are becoming more serious about him. The Sharks’ spring game is this Thursday, and if some assistants from a few other programs that have been in communication with him make good on one last pass by his school to see him play, another couple of offers could be around the corner.

“Spring practice has been going good,” he said. “I think that we move a lot faster here.”

One of those teams that could be on the verge of offering is Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are obviously not shy about recruiting wide receiver talent from all over the state, but after getting the conversation moving with receivers coach Emmett Jones, Jackson feels Tech is a contender to become his next Big 12 offer.

“[Jones] has been saying that he wants to come to the spring game, he just has to take a look at me,” he said. “Things have been kind of on-and-off with them, but I know that I’m on their radar.”

Of the offers that Jackson has added this spring, he said that North Texas and West Virginia have stepped forward as the most serious contenders, with potential visits before the end of summer possibly making the difference in where his head is at going forward.

IN HIS WORDS

On North Texas

“Things have been good with them,” he said. “They really want me to come up there for an unofficial visit next week, so we’ll see what that’s about. I think I’ll want to go up there and they did really well last year … Now that I have had more of a chance to think about where I fit, North Texas is one of those spots. ”

On West Vriginia

“I’ve been getting along well with Coach (Tyron) Carrier,” he said. “I talk to him every week. We just keep in contact mainly, nothing specific … They’ve talked about having me up there on an official, I’d like to go up there twice, but it might just be once.”

RIVALS REACTON

After what north Texas showed offensively last season, winning over a prospect like Jackson is much more of a possibility - particularly considering it is an in-state program versus shipping off to Morgantown. That being said, it seems as though the ball is in the Mountaineers’ court as to how seriously they choose to pursue him going forward. Jackson hasn’t been overly-motivated to take official visits in the summer but he did leave the door open for a possible early commitment should the circumstances be right.

“I just have to meet the staff, take an official and it has to be a good program,” he said. “I’m really trying to see a gameday experience.”
