PFLUGERVILLE, Tex. -- Caden Leggett has been watching a lot of other players catch offers from Power Five programs this fall while he’s been catching touchdown passes.

In ten games played this season, he has over 1,200 yards receiving and 21 touchdowns. He turned heads very early this year at the Army All-American National Combine with some acrobatic catches and became a momentary national celebrity after a nonchalant one-handed grab earlier this year that landed him on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.

So how is it that his only FBS offers are from Army and Texas State?

“I worked so hard during the summer to perfect my craft and get so much better,” he said. “My goal this season was just to bring out some huge numbers and get some big offers.”

He’s accomplished half of that so far. Make no mistake, Leggett isn’t scoffing at his offer from Texas State but doesn’t want to wonder what could have been should he take himself off the market at this point.

“My goal was always to just commit once,” he said. “This commitment is going to be a big deal to me and I’ll have put some thought into it. I just want a big-time team to put their faith in me that I can come up there and be the playmaker that I know I am.”

Two of the teams at least on his radar are Baylor or Texas Tech. Leggett has visited each several times and has gone as far to call the Red Raiders his favored choice, should an offer come about.

IN HIS WORDS

On Baylor

“The last visit went good,” he said. “They’re struggling a little bit right now, but I’ve always loved Baylor. I really love the atmosphere and everything going on there, and it would be great to be a part of a team like that.”

“Right now with Baylor it’s been quiet,” he said. “We talk about every week, maybe once a week.”

On Texas State

“I just came back from their game against New Mexico State,” he said. “I love Texas State, their coaches have been awesome - sending me letters every week and I talk with them every single day. I love Coach (Everett) Withers; great guy and I have a great relationship with him.”

“They’re getting some good commits this year,” he said. “They told me that I am the number-one player on their board. I’m the guy that they want, so we’ll see what happens.”

On Texas Tech

“That’s kind of my goal to end up there, but we’ll see how that works out,” he said. “I’ve met all the coaching staff and love them, what they preach, and I really love the way they throw the football and just everything that they do.”

“They’re still talking to me, so I guess they’re still interested a little bit,” he said. “But I don’t know where we’re headed, we’ll see what happens.”

RIVALS REACTION

It seems as though Leggett could be a player that a number of teams may move on much closer to National Signing Day should other targets go other directions. Some of the talk as to why Leggett hasn’t been more heavily recruited is focused on his speed, but it’s hard to argue how effective he is as pass-catcher and how capable he is of making jaw-dropping catches. Things may not be as active with his recruitment as he would have liked by this point, but something interesting could happen before it’s all over with.
