3-star Tennessee DB Dajeun Gibson commits to Charlotte
THE SITUATION
Charlotte added a big piece to its 2020 recruiting class with the commitment of three-star Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Blackman defensive back Dajeun Gibson. The 49ers landed Gibson, who had a trio of SEC offers, after impressing with the start to the 2019 season under new coach Will Healy. During his time at Austin Peay, Healy mined the state of Tennessee on the recruiting trail and it appears those relationships are still paying dividends. Rivals.com caught up with Gibson to break down his decision.
IN HIS WORDS
On the decision: "The coaches worked hard to build a relationship with me. Also, I can see the potential for growth for the team and myself."
On a fit in the defense: "They expressed a need for my talents and abilities. They view me as potentially being their lockdown corner. Because of my size and ability to play man defense."
On Coach Healy: "His energy and he appears to have a believable vision for the program. He is always so positive."
On his visit to campus: "I was last on campus September 28th and 29th. It was their homecoming and I got to see the city and spend a lot of time with the coaching staff and got to know them better."
RIVALS REACTION
Gibson is a playmaking defensive back that was on the radar of several major programs but slipped through the cracks due to numbers. This is exactly the type of player the 49ers need to continue rebuilding the roster and landing his commitment is huge. Charlotte has loaded up at defensive back in the 2020 class and Gibson is just another talented option for the team going forward.
