Taye Barber has rightfully earned the attention that he’s received this spring as one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Houston area.

After one of the most talked-about teams of the past few weeks, Kansas, offered him earlier in March. Now, the Jayhawks could immediately jump to the front of his recruitment.

“Kansas. Kansas is a real exciting offer,” he said. “My brother is going to Tabor College and I don’t really get to see him, but he’s trying to go to Kansas. It could be close.”

Barber was at the Rivals Three Stripe Camp presented by Adidas event in New Orleans last weekend, as were recent high-profile Kansas commits Devonta Jason, Corione Harris, and Aaron Brule. He said that while he still has plenty to learn about KU, one thing about last season sticks out in his mind.

“I just hope they can turn things around and get back on track,” he said. “They kind of got back on track when they beat Texas, so we’ll see how they come back this season.”

In the meantime, there hasn’t been a big shakeup with the teams that have otherwise been at the forefront of his recruitment, but it seems visits are in order for Missouri, Oklahoma State, and TCU as the offseason rolls on.

IN HIS WORDS

On Missouri

“They’ve just been telling me that I need to get up there and see the place and I’ll love it,” he said. “They want to show me how they’re going to use me in the offense and remind me that they had the [second] most passing yards in the SEC last season, so it’s a successful offense.”

On TCU

“They’re still talking to me, but it’s been like the regular conversation most coaches have,” he said. “Checking in on me, seeing how I’m doing, the 7-on-7 tournament that just got done recently – how did that go, when can I get back up there, stuff like that.”

On Oklahoma State

“The new recruiting coordinator I talk to is cool, he called me on the phone and we chopped it up for a little bit,” he said. “He’s just trying to get to know me for now, but he’s got some good insight on the program.”

RIVALS REACTION

Barber said he would like to make a trip to Kansas with his mother as well at some point before the end of summer. Otherwise, he thinks that he could be seeing the next team likely interested in offering him being Ole Miss. Should that materialize, Barber is also interested in seeing what he thinks about the Rebels.

“I just hope things cool down out there so they can give me an offer and go see the place,” he said. “I don’t know anything about it out there, so I’m going to have to go see it for myself.”
