3-Star OL Jackson Kimble anxious to get started at Baylor

FRISCO, Tex. -- Baylor head coach Matt Rhule can’t deny that he hasn’t taken his lumps in his first season leading the Bears football team, but few should be surprised.

Three-star offensive tackle and Baylor commit Jackson Kimble and his Southlake Carroll team are in the state playoff quarterfinals after a win against Arlington on Saturday night, but his senior year hasn’t been without its own moments of adversity.

“The regular season didn’t really go the way that we wanted it to,” he said. “We haven’t trailed at the half in any game this season and we had three losses. We finished third in district, so that’s not what we wanted, but we took what we learned from those losses and put them into what we’re doing now.”

Kimble is optimistic that the turnaround and subsequent playoff run his Dragons are currently on will mirror the improvement he hopes to see at Baylor once he starts suiting up there next season. Even he chuckled a bit at how lopsided the Bears record was this season, but that’s because he’s anxious to get his chance to help with the program’s turnaround next season.

“I’m fully committed and I plan on committing in I guess about 18 days,” he said.

IN HIS WORDS

Recapping his recent in-home visit with Rhule

“The good thing about my in-home visit with Coach Rhule the other night was how he was just saying how there are a lot of freshmen and sophomores playing on that team,” he said. “They still finished high in time of possession, so hopefully the team keeps improving running the ball, and when me and the rest of this class shows up, I think that will help with that.

“What I have seen is a good defense, a great quarterback in Charlie Brewer, and I’m just excited for what the team has in the future.”

On his expected role on the team

“Talking with Coach (George) DeLeone, he says that you play tackle until you prove that you can’t play tackle,” he said. “Frankly though, that hasn’t been on my mind. I’m trying to give my all to the team that I’m on right now.”

RIVALS REACTION

Kimble had a nice game on Saturday night and has the look of a player that could be plugged in confidently anywhere along the offensive line. With the immediate lack of depth that Baylor had on the offensive line heading into this season, his desire to get signed and engaged with the team is great news for the Bears staff.
