Crosby, Texas, three-star offensive lineman Chayse Todd has been racking up offers in bunches this spring and there’s no doubt he’s thankful for the attention he’s received to this point in his recruitment.

Unlike many of his peers, Todd has spent the spring more focused on his high school team than his future one. Even as many prospects in Texas have been taking official visits and making commitments, he’s been focused on his current team more than a potential future team – and that’s by design.

“I’m not looking too hard into the recruiting stuff right now,” he said. “I’m just focused on trying to help my team win a state championship. After that happens, that’s when me and my family will start the process of choosing a team. I get that some spots will be filled but that’s my personal preference and that’s what I’m going to roll with.”

That doesn’t mean he’s completely discounted his recruitment. He took a visit to nearby Houston this past weekend, but his spring was most prominently highlighted by an unofficial visit to Iowa State, which seems to have tipped the scales in terms of who he’s considering among some unofficial favorites.

IN HIS WORDS

On his visit to Iowa State

“I really loved it,” he said. “I could see myself up there. They got some good things going up there – the coaching staff is young, everybody’s young – so I could them in three-to-four years being up there with Oklahoma.”

“The offensive line coach just got married, so it’s been a little up-and-down with being able to talk with him,” he said. “Coach Nate [Scheelhaase], I talk with him regularly and we have a really good relationship.”

On Kansas

“I’ve talked with [junior safety] Mike Lee,” he said. “He said that they have something good going up there and I might want to be a part of it – start something new … I understand the process of rebuilding because at the high school I came from we lost almost every game. I know what that can be like and that’s alright.”
