3-star OL Brandon Mello set to visit Cal again this weekend

The Latest: The offer list of three-star offensive lineman Brandon Mello has been growing in recent weeks, with new programs joining the mix on a weekly basis. But one Pac-12 school, California, has been in the mix for a while and has done a nice job of grabbing Mello’s attention. Rivals.com caught up with Mello at the recent Los Angeles stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas to talk recruiting and find out where the Bears stand on his list.

In His Words: “Cal has definitely been involved a lot. I talk to their coaches a lot through twitter and on the phone. They’re talking about building their program again and building it up with California kids. They want to keep guys close to home. They’re adding to their talent base and that’s part of their message.”

On his relationship with the coaches: “I went to camp at Oregon when Coach Greatwood was working there so I’ve met him before and I’ve always liked him as a coach. He’s put a lot of guys in the NFL. I was there earlier this month and I liked his coaching style in practice.”

On this weekend’s visit: “I’ll be going there for the Spring Game. I’ve seen some of the football stuff on other visits but I’ve wanted to see more of the school and what daily life is like up there. Plus I want to see the academic side. Cal is a good school for business, which is what I’ve always wanted to do.”

On other visits upcoming: “I’m going to Oregon and Oregon State next weekend. I think it’s Oregon’s spring game when I’m up there so that should be fun to watch."

Rivals Reaction: The fact that Mello is making it to campus twice in one month is a very good sign for the Bears, who clearly hold him in high regard. Mello didn’t say how close he was to a decision, but the more times he’s on campus in Berkeley the better it bodes for the Bears chances.
