3-star Nevada QB Kenyon Oblad sees good fit in San Diego State offense
The Latest: The recruiting process can be interesting for quarterbacks as many have to wait for the dominoes to fall in terms of commitments before most offers come rolling in. Class of 2018 three-star quarterback Kenyon Oblad is going through that experience currently, holding a handful of Group of Five offers while waiting to see if any other schools join the mix. Rivals.com recently caught up with him at the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas stop in Los Angeles to talk about his process and which school might have the early edge.
In His Words: “I’m talking to a few schools right now and I think I should get some more offers soon. I just went to North Carolina and they seemed pretty interested, Cal and Arizona are talking to me, too.”
On the North Carolina visit: “They told me they really like me and like my film and my game but they said they want to come out and see me throw in person and they’re going to do that this spring.”
On which school is recruiting him hardest: “They’re all talking to me a lot but San Diego State, Colorado State and UNLV are all keeping in touch.”
On SDSU: “They really want me. They just talk about how they’ve been recruiting me since I was a freshman and they’ve always had that faith in me. That’s a big thing for me because right now they are only four schools that have offered so they do believe in me but SDSU has been believing in me since my sophomore year so that goes a long way.”
On his last visit to SDSU: “I went down there a month ago to watch their spring scrimmage. I got to see the coaches in action and see how they work with the guys and I got to sit in on a meeting with the offensive coordinator. I liked it a lot, I liked how he coached and taught his quarterback.”
On his fit in the Aztecs offense: “They run a pro-style offense, they run the ball and throw off the run and I think I would fit pretty well. I think I’m accurate, I can throw it and I can play under center or in the spread. I’m a thrower more than a runner but I can run when I need to.”
Rivals Reaction: It’s clear that Oblad is staying patient and weighing his options while he waits to see if other offers roll in, but his recent visit to San Diego State bodes well for the Aztecs chances. The length of time they’ve been in the picture is also something he clearly values so it will be interesting to see how things play out down the road.
