With his senior season already under way, three-star Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose athlete Cornelius Sturghill is starting to narrow down his focus and three schools are standing above the rest.

"Right now I'm really just focusing on a few schools - UCLA, Vanderbilt and Northern Illinois," Sturghill said. "I don't really have a top school but those are the ones getting my interest right now."
Sturghill said he expects plenty of schools to come by this fall so he's still holding out hope that others might join his top three.
"The school that I was most impressed with when I went to camps over the summer was Georgia," Sturghill said. "I really hope they offer. They're my dream school. They said they're watching me for defensive back or wide receiver. I really like their coaches and what they're doing there."
As far as the Bruins, Sturghill said he continues to be intrigued with the idea of going to school far from home. He's already set an official visit to UCLA for Nov. 22 and said he's looking forward to the trip.
"On that visit I'm really looking forward to spending time with the coaches and getting to know them," he said. "I also want to see how the depth chart looks. Playing early is something that's important to me."
Sturghill added that Vanderbilt and NIU are also likely to get officials in the fall, but the Commodores are also going to have a shot to impress him again later in the week.
"I'm trying to go to see Vanderbilt and Ole Miss on Thursday," he said.
