It was a long time coming but Durham (N.C.) Hillside offensive tackle Emanuel McGirt final pulled the trigger and committed to N.C. State. The urge to represent his home state was something he couldn't pass up.
"Last time I committed to North Carolina I felt like I rushed into it," said the 6-foot-5, 271-pound McGirt. "This time I took my time and discussed it with my parents. We sat down and thought about this, that and the third. At one point I was probably going to go to Georgia and then I thought about it and just to be able to stay in my home state and really help change a program instead of just being another guy, the power of that made me think N.C. State was the place for me."
McGirt is truly committed to doing whatever it takes to making N.C. State as successful as possible.
"I feel I can go in there and helped contribute," he said. "It's a good coaching staff and good people. We're going to bring some wins back. Whether it's playing next year or the year after, I feel I can contribute and help the team get back as I get better."
There were plenty of things pulling McGirt to N.C. State but none were bigger than the Wolfpack's highest rated commit.
"It feels good, especially because it is a school I've always liked," said McGirt. "I'm going with one of my good friends Darian Roseboro, a five-star recruiter. I'm excited. That's my man right there. It just feels right."
McGirt's main focus now is making N.C. State better by helping to bring in more highly rated recruits.
"We're going to get to Nyheim Hines, Johnny Frasier and Mike Hughes," he said. "Those are the guys we want to get on board. I feel like they're close, especially Nyheim. I think he's really close."
With McGirt's commitment, N.C. State now has 16 commitments in its 2015 class.
