HOUSTON, Tex. – Keller three-star wide receiver Jaylen Hearst has often been on the receiving end of big play after big play in camps and 7-on-7 games so far this spring – and he’s starting to pick up some big offers as well.

In early March, he picked up an offer from Texas Tech, and opened up April with an offer from Arizona State. At last weekend’s Pylon 7on7 qualifying tournament in Houston, he said that the Sun Devils and Red Raiders are among his favorite teams.

“I love [Tech receivers] Coach (Emmett) Jones,” he said. “We talk on the daily, so he’s like family to me … Being a wide receiver, it’s like heaven out there.”

Such is becoming the trend with Hearst and receivers coaches across all the programs that have offered him this spring. In addition to Arizona State and Tech, he said that Kansas has also been in a similar space with him, though it seems the Jayhawks may need to get him on campus before they’re positioned as well as the others.

IN HIS WORDS

On Arizona State

“Coach (Charlie) Fisher just recently hit me up the other day and he just got to know me,” he said. “We talked for about an hour and he was just telling me about the facilities and the school in general. I actually like Arizona State a lot – I watched them a lot growing up, so that’s a school I’m very interested in.”

On Kansas

“They’re making a big effort and that stands out a lot,” he said. “I’m still waiting for things to pick up, I don’t want to rush into anything. They want me to come out in a few weeks and I am trying to try and plan a trip out there.”

On Texas Tech

“It was actually shocking – I didn’t think that it was going to be how it was,” he said. “The facilities are huge; everything was just ten times better than what I expected. At the spring game I just want to get a look and see if the atmosphere is live. I don’t really want to go to a place that’s just boring.”

RIVALS REACTION

Hearst was one of the top players in the Pylon qualifier last weekend for Texas Swoosh, which went on to win the tournament. He’s a tricky player that finds ways to make tough catches through narrow windows. Hearst has also been active on the camp circuit, with a nice performance in the Dallas event of the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by Adidas, and has been showing what it is that the programs that have offered have been enamored with.
