3-Star DE Cameron Valentine excited about Texas Tech offer

RICHMOND, Tx. -- Cameron Valentine could become an interesting name to watch this summer after a nice spring highlighted with a recent Texas Tech offer.

The three-star Foster H.S. defensive end picked up his offer while on campus for a visit last weekend. Valentine said that he’s happy to pick up his first Power Five offer, but he wasn’t expecting to receive one while he was out there.

“I was excited and surprised,” he said. “I didn’t know they would do that. I just got done with my visit and really liked the campus, the coaches, and just the feel of the school, so I was excited.”

Valentine missed four games last season, but still made 5 sacks. His build and pass-rush ability make him a threat with his hand down, or standing off the edge. Against the wide-open offenses of the Big 12, he would be a natural fit.

“I loved the campus and I’ll be back up there for sure,” he said. “My favorite thing about the trip was probably the coaches, just because they were so personable and just good people.”

Tech could be considered Valentine’s biggest offer, although he holds a number of FBS offers already. Tulsa offered at the end of may, and other teams like The Citadel and UNLV have piqued his interest as well. Otherwise, he plans on camping at Baylor and TCU later this summer.

IN HIS WORDS

On TCU

“Growing up I had a cousin graduate from TCU,” he said. “So it would be kind of cool to keep a family tradition of going there a little bit.”

On his takeaway from when assistants paid a visit to his school in spring

“TCU is a very prestigious school and very high-caliber,” he said. “The were really cool to talk to and they just knew exactly what they want and need in their class so it was nice hearing from them.”

On The Citadel and UNLV

“I definitely want to make a visit up to UNLV and see what that’s all about,” he said. “The Citadel is a pretty prestigious school so I’d like to go up there and feel that out a little bit.”

RIVALS REACTION

Now that the Red Raiders have offered Valentine, Baylor and TCU are sure to keep an eye on him should he participate in events at each over the summer. Valentine is an athletic 250-pounder that plays strong, but has natural pass-rush instincts. If other schools don’t make a move on him over the coming weeks, Tech is in a great position to get a strong footing in his recruitment going forward.
