Teams in the market for Jeremiah Lewis’ services better start getting serious about it.
Lewis said Sunday at the Rivals Three Stripe Camp presented by Adidas in Dallas that he’s trying to have a commitment made by mid- to late-April. Before that happens, he’s trying to have a look at a couple of programs that have recently offered him.
At the end of March, both Boston College and Northwestern made a move on Lewis. His only experience in the northeast was a trip to Philadelphia once before, so he’s planning on getting a good look at things in Boston, starting with what BC defensive backs coach Anthony Companile has in store.
“It means a lot the way they have been recruiting me,” he said. “They reach out at least three times a week. They’ve been consistent and that’s pretty good feeling that need and want from them is there. They ask about my family, and they’re trying to work that factor, which is a great start for a school that has just recently offered.”
If he can, Lewis also hopes to include a stop at Northwestern on his way back. Last season, his close friend Bryce Jackson committed to the Wildcats, and he has spoken with him a little bit about what the school has to offer.
The coaches, on the other hand, have had a lot to say about things.
“They go for the academics aspect,” he said. “That’s a major factor in my recruiting. Bryce committed there last year and our folks are pretty cool, so that kind of helps a little bit. He’s just talked to me about the academics and what he knows about the coaching staff from the times he’s been up there.”
Meanwhile, North Texas also came through with a recent offer for Lewis. UNT may have some ground to try and make up quickly with him if they want to have a chance in things. Lewis was just given his offer last weekend while participating in the Texas Relays.
“I haven’t talked to them a lot, I just know the general stuff,” he said. “It’s not too far from here, so I’ll try and get up there sometime in the next week and just check out a practice and learn more about them.”
RIVALS REACTION
Lewis has somewhat eclectic offer list and just picked up another from Southern Miss this week. However, with Boston College and Northwestern in the mix, he now has a few programs traditionally known for their academics at the forefront of his recruitment, with offers from Duke and Rice also in hand. With a commitment seemingly right around the corner, it will be known soon enough if one of those programs has done enough to win him over.
