SAN ANTONIO, Tx. -- The demand for long, athletic cornerbacks is has been a growing trend in football recruiting, and Chris Mills has been one of the beneficiaries over the last few weeks.

Offers continue to roll in for Mills, but he already has a number of FBS options to consider. While many of his peers will be focused on taking official visits over the summer, Mills says that the fall will be when he and his family will all get to have a hard look together at his options.

That hasn’t kept programs from giving him their best sales pitch, and over recent weeks Mills said that he has been in communication most frequently with Houston, Michigan State and Virginia.

IN HIS WORDS

On Houston

“They popped up on the scene really quick,” he said. “All the coaches got in real close contact with me, showing me how much they’re interested, so I like the program.”

On Michigan State

“They like my speed, my film, pretty much everything about me,” he said. “They see that I have a lot of potential and that they can build me up into something. I just trust them to be able to give me the [coaching] that I need.”

On his relationship with recruiting coach Terrence Samuel

“He’s a cool coach, he’s chill,” he said. “He seems like he’s cool off the field but on the field, he’ll keep you in your place.”

On Virginia

“I like them a lot,” he said. “I like the education at the school, me and my mom talk about that a lot, that’s one of my main focuses. They’re already one of my top picks.”

RIVALS REACTION

Mills has picked up eight offers since April 29, including BYU and Tulsa. He has the length and the frame that makes for ideal cornerbacks and should continue to pick up offers through the summer as he gets more attention.

Mills does a nice job of not relying too heavily on his size but looks to break up receivers routes at the line. Most of his offers are relatively recent so there is still plenty of opportunity for others to make an early impression before the end of summer.
