MANDEVILLE, La. -- Last year at Houston-Lamar, two Rivals250 cornerbacks in Anthony Cook and D’Shawn Jamison dominated the conversation about the premier-level prospects in the Texans secondary. Just because they’re gone now, doesn’t mean there isn’t at least one elite player stepping up to fill their shoes.

Alex Hogan has been no stranger to being recruited and picking up offers, but starting this spring, he has made moves to pick right up where his former teammates left off. Over the past few weeks, he’s turned in impressive performances on the camp and 7-on-7 circuits, and this weekend, Colorado is hoping it can press the right buttons and move to the top of his list of favorites with a strong official visit.

Hogan isn’t done this offseason taking officials, either. He has an official visit scheduled for June 22 to Iowa State and as coaches start making the rounds in Texas during spring football, he could be put in the mood to take another if the situation is right.

“A lot of schools have been hitting me up,” he said. “They’ve been talking about coming to the school and seeing me in action.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Colorado

Things with Colorado are going great,” he said. “Coach (Ashley) Ambrose is staying in touch with me, Coach Mac [Mike MacIntyre] the head coach is always talking to me, make sure I’m balling, all that … They have been telling me that the direction of the program is good, I think that they have three starting seniors this year, so at both Iowa State and Colorado, I have a chance to go in and play as a freshman.”

On Iowa State, where he will take an unofficial visit to in May

“The relationship has grown a lot,” he said. “Me and the coach have a very good bond, we FaceTime all the time; talk about football, talk about life, talk about school … When I go there, I’m just really just trying to see how me and the coach interact in person, how the players act, and how the head coach is working to make the players better and better men in life.”

RIVALS REACTION

The fact that he is taking two visits there within weeks of each other is a big show of confidence for the Cyclones. Something similar could be said for Colorado as his most recent offer - Hogan looks to be re-focusing on the teams that have been more interested in him lately rather than circling back with some of his earlier offers. He was offered most recently by Texas Tech on Thursday, so perhaps the Red Raiders can also capitalize by prioritizing him as spring continues on.
