3-Star 2019 DE Colt Ellison on offers and interest from B1G teams

ALEDO, Tex. -- Aledo has playmakers on its team, there’s no doubt about that. One of the more unique ones is 2019 three-star defensive end Colt Ellison.

A sneaky strong pass-rusher, Ellison revealed an even broader skill set over the summer at the Prime 21 showcase camp, spending the day at linebacker and in pass coverage. That kind of versatility could make for a very interesting spring - with two offers coming into the season, he picked one up from Texas State this week and could have another big one on the way.

“To be honest with you, I have no idea,” he said of where is head at this point in his recruitment. “I want to go to a school that is going to set em up for a good job after I graduate - it’s more than just about football - but I want the best of both.”

Texas-San Antonio has offered Ellison, but so has Big Ten team Illinois, and one of the Illini’s nearby conference rivals could be next in line.

Northwestern called me yesterday and the coach I spoke to told me that he wants to offer me, but has to speak to the head coach,” he said. “We’ll see how that goes, hopefully I’ll get a call back from them within the next couple of days.”

IN HIS WORDS

On a recent unofficial to Illinois

“I went to Illinois a couple of weeks ago and I like it a lot, it’s a great place,” he said. “It’s going to be cold in the winter time … all the players out there were pretty cool, they all came up to talk to me for a little bit, and I think that I could fit in there pretty well.”

More on Northwestern

“That would be a pretty big deal,” he said. “They are the best of both worlds both academically and with football. I still have a long way to go, but we’ll see what happens.”

RIVALS REACTION

Ellison said that he was thinking about being in San Antonio this weekend when the Roadrunners host UAB, but by his own admission, he’s still early in the process and forming opinions on which schools he’s most interested in. Prior to his visit to Illinois, he was on an unofficial visit to Notre Dame, and the prevailing theme with him is an emphasis on academics. More offers are certainly in his future, but this offseason will give him another opportunity to further his reputation.
