2022 standout high on Gators, Buckeyes, Tide

THE LATEST: Class-of-2022 prospect Sam McCall does not lack for early interest. The long, rangy safety has more than 20 offers already and that list will continue to expand. Below, the Lake Gibson (Fla.) High School star discusses the three programs that stand out at this early juncture.

ON SCHOOLS MOST INVOLVED:

“I like everyone, but the ones hitting hardest with me are Alabama, Ohio State and Florida. Those are the ones coming hard. I haven’t seen all thee yet, but I want to. I have been to two. I haven’t gotten to see Ohio State yet. I really want to, though.”

ON OHIO STATE:

“Even having not been out there, I can already tell I like them. They love me as an athlete and like that I can play all positions. They probably want me to play defensive back. They see me as an athlete, though. I actually probably need my position moved to athlete Rivals.”

ON A POSSIBLE OHIO STATE VISIT:

“Hopefully soon. I don’t have a date.”

ON FLORIDA:

“With them, it’s the coaching staff. Those guys make you feel fired up. They excite you. They make me want to go there.”

ON THE UF COACHES HE LIKES:

"Coach [Keiwan Ratliff] for sure. Also, Coach [Torrian Gray] and Coach [David] Tuner.”

ON ALABAMA:

That strength program is amazing. They have a real strength program. You can see the money they spent on that strength program and it works.

ON HIS VISIT TO TUSCALOOSA:

“The weight room and the things they do with the program stood out. They are going to help you out with speed and with power. I liked what I saw there a lot.”

RIVALS REACTION: It’s much too early to tell where McCall may land, but it is becoming clear that he will play safety at the college level. He worked out primarily on defense during last weekend’s Rivals camp and impressed while doing so. Florida seems to have a slight early edge here, but that's obviously subject to change in the year ahead.
