HOUSTON, Tex. -- One of the state’s top 2021 offensive linemen, Donovan Jackson, has seen his recruitment take off this spring and the table could be set for a knock-down, drag out fight between some heavyweight programs over the next couple of years.

Before he knows it, he’ll be past the honeymoon phase with things, but for now, Jackson has a humble disposition and has been enjoying the way things have started for him.

“It’s been a dream,” he said. “Since I was a little kid I’ve been praying for moments like this and I’m happy it’s coming true.”

Just in the last week, he’s picked up offers from Baylor, Florida, Houston, Kansas and Vanderbilt, but the ones that have made the biggest impact with him thus far have been Alabama and Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide offered Jackson at the end of the April, and he already has plans to make a visit to Tuscaloosa on June 9.

IN HIS WORDS

On Alabama

“I mean, who wouldn’t go to Bama,” he said. “Obviously, they have been recruiting out here with Jaylen Waddle and Coach (Jeff) Banks already said he’s going to come after me with all he’s got, so I’m looking forward to it.”

On his relationship with Banks

“I talked with him a little bit, he’s the one that gave me the offer,” he said. “He said that he loved me when he was recruiting for A&M and he thinks that I’ll fit in well at Bama, which is a huge sign for me because only the best go to Bama.”

On Texas A&M

“Right now, Texas A&M is one of those schools that as a kid, I had a list and they were one of the schools that was high up on it,” he said. “I have a great relationship with Coach (Jim) Turner. He basically said that anytime I am near College Station to give him a call. He’s just got that type of personality.”

RIVALS REACTION

Things are moving quickly for Jackson in the way of picking up early offers, but there is one he’s yet to pick up that he hinted at having the inkling may be on its way: Notre Dame.

“I feel like they’re close, but I could never know,” he said. “It’s a gut feeling. Sometimes you just know.”

At the Houston Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas, Jackson was a standout offensive lineman regardless of class. He is part of an Episcopal linemen corp that should be able to maul its way through its schedule this fall, and Jackson is not likely to see a slowdown in the pace he’s picking up offers anytime soon.
