ROUND ROCK, Tex. -- In a group with 2019 Rivals100 wide receiver Garrett Wilson and Elijah Higgins - who is nearly in the Top 100 himself - another player caught the eye as he kept pace with them, and even caught a few deep passes of his own.

2021 Hutto defensive end Landyn Watson has enjoyed a successful spring and summer on the recruiting trail, and though he’s very clearly already got the build of a top player at his position, the speed and agility that he showed on a sweltering Wednesday afternoon was particularly impressive.

With camp season behind him, he’s had a chance to make a couple of visits, and he said that his most recent to Texas A&M was certainly time well-spent.

“They’re definitely going to be a hat on the table when I’m ready to commit,” he said. “I’ve been watching them come along, they’ve had some ups-and-downs, but they have a winning program.”

The Aggies haven’t offered Watson just yet, nor has another of his favorites in Texas, but he has picked up Big 12 offers from Baylor, Oklahoma State and TCU. He has a good feeling from the Longhorns after camping at UT in June, but he also said that Alabama and Oklahoma have begun kicking the tires with him as well.

IN HIS WORDS

On Texas

“Texas is definitely going to be a hat on the table as well,” he said. “I’ve been watching them - they’ve been my dream school since I was a young kid, and I just like the campus, the coaches, and all that.”

“They said that they loved my film as a freshman,” he said. “They definitely want to stay in contact. On the 27th, I’ll be heading back up there for a recruiting event and my parents will be out there with me as well.”

Recapping his Texas A&M visit at the end of June

“The A&M visit went good, they showed a lot of good hospitality around campus,” he said. “The coaches were really nice and just the environment really shocked me. I was just out there taking a look around, it was my first time out there at College Station, seeing how the football program was and how they run it.”

“Coach Terry Price and I have been talking a lot about when he wants me to get back up there on campus,” he said. “He has been saying that he wants my family to come with me, and usually every time I go on a visit with my family, that’s when the offer comes out.”
