2021 CB Kavian Gaither hoping positive summer yields fall offers

ARLINGTON, Tex. – For 2021 Waco-Connally cornerback Kavian Gaither, opening up his recruitment with that first offer is just a matter of being patient. He feels that he’s already caught the attention of a few top programs this offseason.

Gaither was one of the defensive backs at Under Armour’s Prime 21 camp on July 14 – primarily a showcase for some of the country’s top rising sophomores and juniors – but he’s hit the road hard during the summer to get his name out and get better. In between competing in some high-profile 7-on-7 events, Gaither’s offseason was also highlighted by an early-June camp at Georgia.

“They gave me some good info about my game,” he said. “I feel like I put myself on their radar, I talked to the defensive coordinator [Mel Tucker] for a little bit after the camp and then took a visit.”

The Bulldogs have been particularly active in recruiting Texas prospects as of late, and Lone Star State talent has returned the interest in kind. Not surprising news for a team that has recruited so well over the past few seasons and very nearly won a national championship last season.

“It was fun, it was a good experience being out there in Georgia,” he said. “It was definitely a good workout and I felt like I did my thing. Some of the coaches gave me a little feedback about what I need to work on and get better at, but I felt like I did pretty good out there.”

Outside of his camp in Athens, Gaither said that he felt he made a strong impression in front of Texas Tech and UTEP assistants at a mega camp at Mary Hardin-Baylor University as well.

RIVALS REACTION

Gaither is half of a talented young cornerback duo at Connally with 2020 prospect Korie Black. While he waits to see what’s to become of the early interest he was able to drum up on the camp circuit this offseason, he’s hoping that one team in particular takes notice of him this fall.

“The dream offer would definitely be TCU,” he said. “I haven’t had the chance to camp there yet, but I’ll definitely be there next year. That’s always been my dream school. I like the environment – it’s a real chill environment – I like the gear and I like the coaches. I feel like they can coach me up to be ready for the NFL.”
