2021 ATH interested in West Virginia, Ohio State

THE LATEST: Class-of-2021 athlete Charles Montgomery has seen his stock rise in the last calendar year, as a once-sleepy recruitment has awoken with gusto. The Tampa-area star has seen passing interest turn into a long list offers that includes overtures from places like Ohio State, Alabama, Maryland and West Virginia and others. Below, Montgomery discusses the Mountaineers and the Buckeyes, then two schools he says are most heavily involved in recruitment.

ON SCHOOLS IN FREQUENT CONTACT:

“It hasn’t been too specific, but I’m talking most to Ohio State and West Virginia. There’s a couple other schools but those two right now.”

ON WHAT HE LIKES ABOUT OHIO STATE:

“They just show a lot of love. You know? That’s really why I love them most. I’m actually going out there for a visit [on the weekend of Oct. 26].”

ON WHAT HE EXPECTS TO SEE IN COLUMBUS:

“I’m looking for the atmosphere. I know it’s going to be great because it’s Ohio State,but that’s what I’m looking for. That’s what I’m looking forward to.”

ON WHICH COACHES ARE RECRUITING HIM FOR THE BUCKEYES:

“Coach Day and a lot of the, actually. I talk to more than one.”

ON WEST VIRGINIA:

“There is a home feeling there. I’ve been up there so I’m used to it and there is that whole home feeling.”

ON HIS PREVIOUS VISIT TO WVU:

“We didn’t really do too much. I just saw the sights and did the camp. It was cool.”

RIVALS REACTION: Montgomery has options, but it’s early so which schools will actually press for his commitment is yet to be determined. That said, he played well a week ago and has the type of shiftiness and acceleration major programs look for in a wide receiver. It’s too soon to paint a clear picture of where his recruitment stands.
