2020 Rivals100 RB Seth McGowan on A&M, LSU & what's next

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. – Seth McGowan is already one of the most closely-watched running back prospects in 2020, but over the last few weeks, he’s been the one doing most of the careful examinations.

Just before the end of the month, McGowan was at LSU participating in the Tigers’ high school prospect showcase and was one of the staff’s top targets during the weekend. Earlier in June, he visited Texas A&M shortly after picking up an offer from the Aggies. Should everything work out, he’s hoping to make another big visit to Georgia to get a closer look at the Bulldogs.

“We’re trying to get a time set up to get out there. The plan was to go out there on July 27th but that didn’t really correlate with the schedule I already had in place,” he said. “It’s just been about transportation for now, but I know that personally, I would still really love getting out there before the end of the summer.”

Over the weekend, McGowan was one of the top prospects in the Texas State 7v7 Division I championship bracket. Although his Poteet team was among those making an early exit, he still flashed the type of poise and athleticism as a pass-catcher that has more than just the mentioned programs circled as a top junior target heading into the fall.

IN HIS WORDS

On his LSU visit

“The camp was outstanding. It was really phenomenal,” he said. “The atmosphere was really exuberant – everything was live – we had on helmets, were going through the drills fast, everything was competition-oriented. I’ve seen plenty of videos of Coach (Tommie) Robinson on YouTube and things like that, but to really receive his guidance and be coached under him is really a blessing.”

More on his relationship with Robinson

“I talk to Coach Robinson a lot,” he said. “Weekly, we just keep in touch. I talked to him a lot prior to the camp and while I was there, he was basically my tour guide and directed me around the camp and all that. After that, I had a great talk with Coach O [Ed Orgeron] about commitment dates, what the plan is and trying to establish the feel for that relationship; if things were mutual and things like that.”

On his Texas A&M visit

“I was up here mostly with the guys that were committed, have offers and things like that,” he said. “Coach (Jimbo) Fisher coming in, getting familiar with him and everything, he really impressed me. I didn’t know much about Coach Fisher or any of the coaches that came in from Florida State, but they really blew me away with the facility and the culture that they’re building there at Texas A&M.”

“Coach (Maurice) Linguist has been the guy that has really been recruiting me,” he said. “I talk to him most consistently – more than I do with a lot of other schools.”
