2020 Rivals100 DB Darius Snow talks Aggies, Cardinal & Mustangs

HOUSTON, Tex. – 2020 safety Darius Snow has seen a mini-run on offers in recent weeks, and after competing in two events last weekend, is in College Station for Texas A&M’s spring game this weekend.

Headlining the more recent teams that have made a move is Stanford, who offered on April 4. The Cardinal have been trying to lure some of Texas’ top defensive back prospects out of the state in recent classes, and have also offered 2020 Rivals100 defensive back RJ Mickens and talented 2019 cornerback Jonathan McGill – both of whom Snow is close with personally.

“We have talked about things a little bit,” he said. “They’ve had their offers for longer, but I had been talking to them about Stanford before my offer even came, because Stanford is the most prestigious school in the country – and they have great football as well. It’s definitely a school I liked even before I started thinking about football, so the offer is big to me.”

The Aggies offered Snow in early February, but SMU is the most recent team to join the race. Snow said ahead of his visit to Texas A&M that he was anticipating getting a closer look at things after only being able to briefly pass through in the past.

“I was there last year during the state 7-on-7 tournament, but I just walked through the campus,” he said. “When I go this time, I’m making sure that I at least tour the facilities and meet all the coaches – that’s the biggest thing to me and just see how the coaches interact hands-on with the players.”

IN HIS WORDS

“Things are good,” he said. “At first, I was only talking to Coach (Mike) Elko, but now I’m starting to develop a relationship with Coach (Terry) Price and a few others. I’ll definitely get the chance to meet a few of the other coaches when I take a visit there.”

“A lot of people may not know, but lived in Texas [once before] in fifth and sixth grade,” he said. “My dad [Eric Snow] was a coach when Larry Brown was a basketball coach there. So I’m very familiar with the school and with the football team as well. I used to go to the games and run across the field and stuff, so the coaches knew that and at the same time it’s close to me and the proximity to home is big to me, but I’ll go to the best school for me.”

More on Stanford

“Originally, I had talked to Coach (Bobby) Kennedy, the wide receivers coach, and we had developed a relationship, and he asked to get a copy of my transcript,” he said. “Once he got it, it checked out and all the coaches met together and I called Coach (Duane) Akina, we had a nice conversation and he offered me a scholarship.”

RIVALS REACTION

Snow is continuing to raise his profile as a top talent out of the state of Texas. He has been a bit frustrated by those that have suggested that he’s going to grow into a linebacker, but his coverage skills are as strong as many of the other top defensive backs as things stand now. He is a more thickly-built player than many others at his position, but he’s committed to sticking at safety and thus far has proven his effectiveness as one again last weekend at the Houston Pylon 7on7 qualifying tournament and the Dallas Under Armour All-American Camp.
