2020 LB Jeremiah Harris on Tulsa offer, interest in Texas Tech

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- One of the Houston-area’s top up-and-coming defensive prospects, 2020 Shadow Creek linebacker Jeremiah Harris, who opened up with recruitment with an offer from Tulsa at the end of January.

The young playmaker shouldn’t be too far removed from picking up more this spring when coaches drop by to see him and the numerous other Division I talents on the Sharks’ defense. So loaded is his team’s talent that a debate has already begun on social media over whether Shadow Creek is set to dethrone nearby Manvel - who was in a 6A state championship game last season - as the top dog in Houston.

“Honestly everyone is sleeping on us right now,” he said. “But we plan on doing some big things - we plan on going to state.”

Harris hasn’t set a schedule for unofficial visits this spring, but said that more teams like Colorado, North Texas and Texas Tech have all started showing increased interest in him. His athleticism and ferocity isn’t commonly seen from a player just off his sophomore season, but he’s already primed to be one of Texas’ top linebackers in his class.

IN HIS WORDS

On picking up an offer from Tulsa

“It felt amazing, to be honest,” he said. “I was out working with my school during boot camp and they liked what they came and liked how explosive I was. They didn’t tell me anything about what they saw on my film, but I’m sure they loved every aspect.”

On interest in Texas Tech

I’m looking at Texas Tech because it’s close to home and I like the defense that they run,” he said. “I like their linebacker, Dakota Allen … I watched him some on Last Chance U and have been keeping up with him.”

RIVALS REACTION

Physically, Harris is built to run and makes sense on a defense that is going to want him chasing down players in space. In last weekend’s Pylon 7-on-7 regional tournament in Louisiana, he wasn’t shy about lining head-up on slot receivers and matching them step-for-step if he wasn’t outright jamming them up at the line from the snap.
