PEARLAND, Tex. -- Shadow Creek has emerged as a hotbed for young talent in the Houston area and one of the more fascinating names in its 2020 class is defensive end Alec Bryant.

Bryant is the younger brother of current Indiana defensive end Alfred Bryant, who signed with the Hoosiers in 2017. This week Indiana offered Alec, as did Vanderbilt, but he has a host of others that have come through this spring - the eye-opening to him having been Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Both the Huskers and Sooners offers are very recent, but they have also taken a seat at the head of the table in his recruitment. While he has intentions to make trips to both, the only visit on the books right now for Bryant is an upcoming prospect day at TCU, but it’s clear that his versatility and speed as an edge-rusher has caught the attention of programs from around the country.

IN HIS WORDS

On picking up his Nebraska offer

“It was like a dream to get a Big Ten offer, and for that to be my first one, it was kind of an honor,” he said. “I just appreciate the offer and hope I can go up there and see the school … [offensive line coach Greg Austin] mentioned making a summer visit, but we didn’t really get to talk much because I was in class when he offered.”

On Oklahoma

“I’ve only talked to them once since they offered, but the head coach talked to me and told me that he wants me to come out there in the summer,” he said. “Another coach was at my practice, but later I got on the phone with Lincoln Riley and he offered me. That was our first conversation - him telling me that he offered me.”

Impressions of OU after Riley’s first season

“It makes me feel like I want to be a part of that,” he said. “Be part of a team that wins championships - if they keep doing that, they’re going to have my eye of course.”

On TCU

“I look at how I could fit into their defense based on what I’ve seen so far,” he said. “I’ve got to make it back out to that school again - I haven’t been there since seventh grade with my brother. I think I remember Zarnell Fitch out there on the sidelines that game too - he was loud.”

RIVALS REACTION

Bryant admitted that the offer from the Sooners was the one that he had the greatest immediate interest in, but he’s interested in seeing what lies ahead as offers continue to come in. He said that Houston and SMU have also been maintaining communication with him, but his enthusiasm for some of the more traditional Power Five programs that have made an early move on him is clear. He should be primed for a breakout junior season as a high-motor, tenacious pass-rusher.
