2020 DB Chris Thompson up for active spring after flurry of offers

DUNCANVILLE, Tex. -- Following last season, Duncanville has fully established itself as one of the most exciting programs not just in the Dallas area, but in the state of Texas. Much of that has to do with its young core of returning players, which on defense, is led by 2020 safety Chris Thompson.

The year has gotten off to a nice start for the young defensive back, who has already picked up six offers as he heads into this spring. He’ll be busy hitting spring games and campuses in the coming weeks, but he’s already made it out to Texas last month.

“I had a lot of fun,” he said. “I talked to B.J. Foster, (D’Shawn) Jamison … The weight room was really advanced, and that stuck out to me.”

Two other programs that Thompson said that he would like to make it out to for spring games are Baylor - where he’s already visited twice before - and Oklahoma State. Otherwise, TCU and Texas A&M are in-state programs that have made him a priority as his recruitment has picked up recently.

IN HIS WORDS

On Baylor

“If I went there, I think there would be a good chance for me to get on the field early because they’re so young,” he said. “I like Coach (Joey) McGuire, he’s a nice coach. He really plays up the fact that he’s been from around here and that means a lot, actually.”

On Oklahoma State

“I like Coach (Tim) Duffie; he’s funny,” he said. “I am going to the spring game at the end of April. I’m just going to be looking at the way their DB’s play, the defense, and I just want to see their campus and stuff like that.”

More on Texas

“I always have good things to say about Texas,” he said. “It’s a big college, the academics are good and also I like Coach (Tom) Herman, he seems like a real good coach. I actually had a chance to practice with Caden Sterns with Coach Flight [Dallas-based trainer Christian White].

On Texas A&M and the Aggies recent commitments from 2019 Rivals100 DB’s Brian Williams and Demani Richardson

“Actually, I follow Leon O’Neal on Twitter and he’s been putting them on,” he said. “I grew up playing little league football with Brian, but Demani I’ve just seen at camps and stuff like that … Right now I’m still pretty neutral with them because I have a lot of stuff to go through with two years left.”

On TCU

Coach (Zarnell) Fitch has been communicating with me since I was a freshman,” he said. “He seems like a really nice coach that I can relate to. I’ve never been to the campus, but of course I’ve watched a lot of their games over the years.”

RIVALS REACTION

Thompson said that in the past few weeks, the communication with TCU hasn’t been quite as frequent. That doesn’t necessarily mean trouble for the nearby Frogs as the relationship had been established and he doesn’t seem to be significantly favoring any program at the moment.

He’s a feisty safety that likes to stick his nose in on plays and programs seem to be eager to add his aggressiveness to their future secondary groups. He’s likely to have some more well-developed feelings about many of the discussed programs after taking in some of their spring games and practices.
