DALLAS, Tex. -- At last weekend’s True Buzz Athletics media day, 2020 linemen prospects Courtland Ford and Branard Wright were among the underclassmen featured as top up-and-comers.

Ford holds an offer from Baylor, and Wright said that he feels the Bears are likely soon to offer him. Both appear to have a level of enthusiasm for the program.

“The first thing I thought of was I don’t have to pay to college anymore, I didn’t have to worry about none of that,” Ford said. “There, I can take the next step and focus on my craft.”

Wright, who already holds an offer from Oregon, was at Baylor last season for its game against Kansas State. The experience clearly made a big impression on him.

“When I went to the Baylor game last year, I talked to the coaches,” he said. “I really wanted to go to Baylor - it was a great experience for me.”

IN THEIR WORDS

“I’m looking at their offensive line and really, you look at their whole team and you got a bunch of studs,” he said. “I had a good opportunity to get a lot of exposure this spring, and to get the Baylor offer was really a good experience.”

Ford’s reflections after visiting Baylor this past spring

“It was good, it was a nice and clean place,” he said. “The coaches were very up-front with me and were nice. The football players were real good, I got to see them practice and I liked it.”

“I think that the program - from what I saw and what I know - is back building up,” he said. “And I think they’ll be a great program.”

RIVALS REACTION

Needless to say, there is a long way to go with both prospects’ recruitment, but the early relationship they’re starting to build with the staff is an encouraging sign. Baylor is Ford’s first FBS offer, so getting in early with him will hopefully keep the Bears at the forefront of his consideration.

Wright is already in the crosshairs of Oregon, who have been aggressively recruiting Texas under new head coach Willie Taggart. The Ducks unquestionably have had success with their recruiting efforts and he said that he’s had some communication with defensive assistant Charles Clark.

“When my coach was showing the Oregon coach my film, he was just like ‘wow’ because then, I didn’t have any offers,” he said. “But for Oregon to be my first offer, that was big for me.”
