2019 TE Ethan Rae on Cal, Stanford and UCLA visits

By now, it’s a well-known fact that 2019 tight end Ethan Rae’s father is a graduate from UCLA, and after the Bruins’ offer to him last month, the assumption has been they would jump to the front of the line.

That may or may not be the case, but after his visit to Westwood ahead of his appearance in the Los Angeles stop of the Rivals Three Stripe Camps presented by Adidas, it didn’t sound like there was reason to doubt that.

“This one was really special because my mom and dad came with me,” he said. “We got to talk to Coach Rip (Scherer), the tight ends coach. He was just talking to us for a while about the recruiting process and how he’s just going to recruit me throughout.”

Scherer isn’t counting on Rae as a shoe-in commitment, but things certainly got off on the right foot on the visit.

“He knows I love the program,” he said. “But that was the first time I got to talk to the coach and start building that relationship.”

Rae also hit the road last month for a tour of northern California schools that included: Cal, Fresno State, San Jose State and Stanford.

On Cal

“Cal really stood out to me,” he said. “I got to sit in with the coaches and talk to all of them. It was good to hear how they would use me in the offense at stuff like that. I like what they told me they plan on doing with their tight ends, it looks like the future is bright with them and tight end.”

On Stanford

“Obviously it’s a really good campus,” he said. “The offense coordinator had seen me before when he came out to our school to see Tyler (Lytle) throw and he likes me.”

Although a number of in-state schools are the ones that have been involved with Rae recently, he has plans to see what others have to offer this summer.

“Colorado looks pretty good, Oregon State is cool up there too, so I’m pretty open right now,” he said. “Everything that I have seen so far is pretty much based on the Pac-12, so I definitely want to get out to the Nebraskas, the Michigans, those types of schools too.”
