2019 receiver high on Auburn, Ohio State

NASHIVLLE, Tenn. – Eric Gray is apparently in no rush. The class-of-2019 prospect has a handful of offers, most from major programs in major conferences. Asked to name a few of the teams that intrigue him most, however, the slot receiver ventures off the beaten path.

The school he rattles when asked to name a frontrunner is yet to offer him a scholarship. Apparently, Gray has other aspirations.

“I really want to look into Auburn,” Gray said on Sunday. “The running back coach came down and I liked what he said to me. I like the way he looked at recruiting. He told me that it’s like marriage. You don’t want to ask a girl to marry you on the first date. He says he wants us to get to know each other because when I sign, we’re married for the next four years.”

Schools such as Miami, LSU and Michigan have already made things official with the sophomore running back. He says he’ll consider each as he visits them down the road. For now, however, he’s more concerned with expanding his options.

“I’m going to visit Auburn, Tennessee and hoping to get up to Ohio State. Auburn came by my school. Tennessee, Memphis, Arkansas … all of them came by the school too.”

Ohio State is another program that piques Gray’s interest. The allure is more than the obvious, though. There’s a family tie in place, and Gray says its strength is significant.

“My uncle, Maurice Hall, played running back at Ohio State,” Gray said. “So I’m interested in them. That’s kind of like a family thing for me.”

Gray attends Memphis (Tenn.) Lausanne Collegiate School. He holds seven scholarship offers.

IN HIS WORDS: “I want to commit the summer going into my senior year because I’m going to enroll early. I want to get to wherever I’m going early.”

RIVALS REACTION: Projecting Gray’s landing spot is impossible, as he seems more concerned with what’s to come than the offers he has in place. That’s not to say that he won’t commit to a school that has already made things official, but he is yet to truly break down his options. Ohio State and Auburn could shoot to the top of his list should they decide to pursue.
