2019 phenom RB Deondrick Glass on early success, Noles & Aggies offers

Running back Deondrick Glass has been one of the hot names in Texas this season despite being just a sophomore.

He’s already rushed for more than 1,500 yards and has scored 27 touchdowns this season, so the attention isn’t unwarranted. Still, to have the likes of Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee and Washington - among others - come through with offers this early in the process, it’s been a surprise even to Glass, who appreciates the notoriety.

“It’s been a very humbling experience,” he said. “Being young, growing up, you don’t always have those chances, but now I’m always getting in the weight room, watching film every day and getting better.”

Other schools are in the mix too, but even with the impressive offer list he has to this point, there are still a few of his old favorites he hopes to hear from at some point.

“My favorite team was always LSU and Ohio State growing up,” he said. “Even though Barry Sanders has been retired, I always liked watching him at Oklahoma State because I just like watching the way he runs - he’s so electrifying and elusive.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Florida State, who gave Glass his first offer

“I was kind of surprised, I was a freshman at the time,” he said. “I felt like I wasn’t worthy a little bit. The conversation we had made me feel like I actually belonged up there.”

On Texas A&M, who gave Glass his latest offer

“I think that they’re a really good program that’s had a lot of success,” he said. “I feel like they really care about me and try to make a connection with their football players.”

On his visit to Texas A&M for the win against Tennessee

“It was a good experience,” he said. “The school was really big and I got the chance to talk to the coaches, took some pictures, and got the feeling that they can help me get to the next level.”

RIVALS REACTION

Glass is off to a great start and in a great situation. Katy won on Saturday 58-0 and played with a second-unit offensive line at the end of the game that’s every bit as big as the starters. He ran with grit more than flash, but yards and points are all that matter and he gets plenty of both.

“It really just says a lot about the team and the coaching staff always putting me in a position to look good,” he said. “I just put as much work in as everyone else. Coach (Gary) Joseph always says that he’ll put the best on the field, so I guess he feels I’m the best right now at the running back position.”

Glass will no doubt pick up more offers, perhaps sooner than later if Katy continues to win through the state playoffs as it did in Saturday’s game.
