When LSU was the first to offer offensive tackle Kenyon Green, he was quick to make a commitment.

Now that the cat is out of the bag when it comes to the 2019 prospect, it’s no surprise that other teams are trying to wedge themselves into his recruitment with a long way to go. Despite his early enthusiasm for the Tigers, Green very clearly falls in the category of a soft commit.

“Right now at this moment I’m still with LSU,” he said. “But I am still going to listen to other teams like it’s an open recruitment for me.”

Also unsurprisingly, the teams most recently making a play for him include in-state programs Texas and Texas A&M as well as nearby Oklahoma.

Green admits that those teams have a lot of ground to cover when it comes to getting familiar with them, but he has plans to see as many of them as quickly as possible - starting with a stop in Austin on February 25 for the Longhorns’ junior day.

IN HIS WORDS

On offer from Texas

“That felt awesome,” he said. “I’m good with Coach (Derek) Warehime, but I’m trying to get down to their junior day so I can get to know him a little better. I haven’t been on campus yet, so that’s why I’m trying to get down there.”

“That staff is awesome,” he said. “I love what they did with the offensive linemen - they did more than just sit back and pass block, they did some things running the ball too.”

On Texas A&M

“It’s a good program and I think it’s on the come-up,” he said. “They’re getting up with some linemen, I look at the ones they got in this class and they have some good ones coming in.”

“It’s a pretty good relationship,” he said. “I was out there on a trip just to check out the college and what they offer for academics. It’s awesome out there, it’s a great feeling just to be on the campus - it was very nice.”

On Oklahoma

“They’ve just been talking up their offensive linemen, like Orlando Brown, he’s a great tackle for them,” he said. “I can see myself modeling him. He’s just a good player - good feet, good hands, and just works on his technique.”

RIVALS REACTION

Green said he expects the offers to keep coming in as coaches from Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Stanford have all made inquiries about him over the past few weeks. He said of that group, an offer from the Gators would likely be the early standout.

“I really like Florida,” he said. “I don’t really have a connection out there, I just like the school. SEC football really appeals to me.”
