2019 DE Braedon Mowry on Aggies, Longhorns & Sooners recruitment

KATY, Tex. -- Katy-Taylor 2019 defensive end Braedon Mowry was always expected to take another step forward this season towards becoming one of the state’s top pass-rushers.

What is tough to determine is how much the season-ending injury to Rivals100 teammate Max Wright influences that - for better or worse. Mowry didn’t show any signs of struggle in Taylor’s win against Mayde Creek on Friday, however, with a sack-and-a-half of his own and numerous quarterback pressures and hits.

“Personally, I want to have the most sacks in the district,” he said. “As a team, I want the chemistry we have to be like what we had last year. It was great last season.”

The teams most involved in his recruitment have shown with their collective interest in him this season that they think he’ll continue on as menacing edge rusher at the next level. Mowry was in College Station on Saturday for Texas A&M’s game against Alabama, and said that his personal relationship with the Aggies staff - as well as those with Oklahoma and Texas - have played an important role in things with him recently.

IN HIS WORDS

On Oklahoma

“There is no number-one team, but it’s a tough decision,” he said. “Coach (Calvin) Thibodeaux is a great man, great coach. I love how he works up there and I love everything about him.”

On Texas

“I talk to Coach (Oscar) Giles a lot,” he said. “Like I said, I don’t have a number-one, but they’re up there on my list … I love the way that their D-ends or outside linebackers get home so quick, that the other tackles just don’t know what to do about it.”

On Texas A&M

“Coach Terry Price is a great person,” he said. “He reminds me a lot of my coach [at Taylor], Coach Jensen, so that’s one thing that I’m excited about with them.”

RIVALS REACTION

For all the talk in the preseason about Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin’s back being against the wall, Texas A&M is a season-opening heartbreaker away from a 5-1 record this season. Mowry was on hand to see the team’s comeback effort against the Crimson Tide, and following his game on Friday night, he expressed his support for the embattled head coach.

“Coach Sumlin is a great man,” he said. “As long as he keeps winning games, I don’t think there should be a problem. I don’t know why people are talking any mess about him.”
